Insulation Material Which Resist Heat Flow
Insulation of the building envelope helps keep heat in during the winter and out during summer to improve comfort and save energy. A well-insulated and well-designed home or building will provide year-round comfort, cutting cooling and heating costs and reducing greenhouse emissions. Resistance to heat flow is achieved by the use of either bulk insulation or reflective insulation, which work in different ways.
.
Direction of Heat Flow
Most significant heat flow at a given time. Heat flows from hot to cold environments and this is considered to be the direction of natural heat flow. Thus “upwards” implies heat flow from a conditioned space through the ceiling or roof and “downwards” implies the opposite. Likewise, horizontal flows can be described as inwards and outwards.
Insulation Benefits
It helps maintain a comfortable indoor temperature and in doing so, helps save electricity as heating and cooling needs are reduced.
Thermal Insulation maintains a comfortable indoor climate all year round; keeping interiors warm in winter and cool in summer
Performance (R-Values)
The R-Value is the measure of an insulation product’s ability to restrict heat transfer. The R-Value is therefore indicative of an insulation product’s thermal insulation performance. The higher the R-Value the better the performance and effectiveness of the insulation product. The R-Value of ISOTHERM is dependent on the thickness selected.
Total R-Values
This is the total thermal resistance provided by a roof or ceiling assembly and /or wall, including the insulation material. Total R-Values are the best indicators of performance.
UP R-Values
This is the resistance to the upward flow of heat; sometimes referred to as “winter” R-Values or warming.
Down R-Values
This is the resistance to the downward flow of heat; sometimes referred to as “summer” R-Values or cooling.
Added R-Values
The added R-Value is the value of the insulating material added to achieve a certain value required.
